how does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works by helping the body return to a natural state of balance.
Very fine, hair-thin needles are placed at specific points on the body that correspond to pathways called meridians. These pathways help regulate how energy, blood, and communication move throughout your system.
When stress, tension, illness, or emotional strain disrupt this flow, the body begins to show signs of imbalance. Acupuncture gently stimulates these points to improve circulation, calm the nervous system, and encourage the release of the body’s own healing chemicals.
The result is often a deep sense of relaxation, improved function, and a feeling of being more grounded and at ease — both physically and emotionally
Amy Nelson AP.
Amy Nelson is a licensed Acupuncture Physician and herbalist in the state of Florida, board-certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and founder of The Healing House in Tallahassee.
She earned her Master’s degree in Classical Chinese Medicine from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, North Carolina, where nearly 2,000 clinical hours and an in-depth study of the classical channel systems shaped the foundation of her practice.
Before studying Chinese Medicine, Amy completed undergraduate studies in psychology and began exploring holistic healing through her own personal journey. This path led her to complete her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Bali, where time spent traveling through Asia and immersing herself in traditional healing cultures deeply influenced the way she understands the body — through breath, awareness, and somatic presence.
Amy had the privilege of studying within the Jade Purity tradition under Jeffrey Yuen, 88th generation Daoist priest, whose teachings in classical channel theory continue to inform her work. She also learned from respected teachers including Dr. Randine Lewis in gynecology and fertility, and Simon Becker in pediatrics.
She has a special interest in supporting women’s health and mental-emotional well-being, while treating a wide range of conditions with an approach that honors the physical, emotional, and energetic layers of healing.
Amy believes that honoring the mind–body connection is essential to true healing. She brings warmth, attentiveness, and curiosity into her work, often weaving together acupuncture, herbal medicine, and gentle lifestyle guidance to create deeply personalized treatment plans for each patient.
The Healing House was created as an extension of the way she practices — calm, intentional, and supportive — a space where clients can slow down, feel safe in their bodies, and receive meaningful, attentive care.
Outside of the clinic, Amy finds balance in spending time with her family and dogs, hiking in nature, visiting the beach, cooking nourishing meals, and attending yoga classes. These simple rhythms of life continue to shape the way she understands presence, healing, and the art of living well.
She looks forward to welcoming you into The Healing House and supporting you on your healing journey.
